The Different Kinds of Household Sidings and Their Benefits

vinyl sidings

Each house is unique and each reflects the characters of its architects, owners, and residents.  Sidings play a crucial role in how a house creates a b visual impression since they cover all sides of the house. They achieve this through their different materials and looks.

When it comes to choosing household sidings, it is all too easy to disregard other factors for appearance. Beauty is an important criteria but it shouldn’t be the only deciding factor since each type of siding has its own set of benefits to offer. Superior Remodelers provides you a helpful guide on the benefits of each type of siding so you can choose wisely:

  • Brick Sidings

This kind of siding uses bricks laid and stuck together using mortar in order to provide an external frame for the house. Brick sidings attract homeowners because of their durability and easy maintenance. Outside walls covered by brick sidings only need a hose-down for cleaning. Since there is air space between the actual surface of a house and a wall of brick sidings, houses outfitted with them tend to cool better than houses that use other types of sidings.

  • Fiber Cement

Mix in cement with wood fiber and you get fiber cement. Fiber Cement sidings are gaining popularity because of their ability to withstand the elements. Since they do not expand like wood sidings do, fiber cement sidings do not need to be repainted as much. They also repel termites and ants which thrive inside wood.

  • Stucco

Stucco sidings can make a 200 square meter home appear like a manor. Although the cost of the material itself isn’t expensive, installing stucco is labor intensive since it comprises three layers. Stucco sidings use the first layer as an adhesive to stick to the surface of the house; the second layer which creates an even surface; and the third layer that provides the characteristic look of stucco. Under the right climate conditions, where precipitation is not excessive, stucco can last for at least 50 years. Unfortunately, stucco is not ideal for humid places where its wood framing can easily rot.

  • Stone Veneer

Stone veneer achieves the look of natural stonework by mixing cement, iron-oxide pigments, and aggregates. It is also more cost-effective than stone so far without the durability of the latter.

  • Wood Sidings

Wood sidings provide a home with down-to-earth air and give it different looks depending on the season and the age of the material.  Although wood sidings are beautiful, they can have high maintenance requirements. Once its finish begins to fade, it is time to clean the sidings and then re-stain and re-seal them. Wood also attracts insects and can rot under excessive moisture and precipitation.

  • Vinyl

Vinyl sidings are the most cost-effective, low-maintenance, and weather-resistant of all the sidings. Its manufacturers also treat the material with sun protection in order to keep it from fading. The technology in manufacturing vinyl has also advanced to the level that it comes in different colors and designs. The cost of installing vinyl sidings is also reasonable. Investing in vinyl does not hurt the pocketbook like the others.

If you’re looking to install new sidings to give your home a lift in terms of durability and appeal, think only of Superior Remodelers to help you install them.
